THE VENUE

Four Points by Sheraton (1 night):

This is a perfectly located hotel close to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. As guests will be arriving from around the world, this will coordinate the group into one spot - ready to head out on safari the next day!

Borana Lodge (6 nights):

Borana Lodge is located at the heart of Borana Conservancy, with a fantastic view of Mount Kenya. The lodge was built entirely from local materials by local craftsmen and the Dyer family. It is perched on a hillside above a dam, where wildlife regularly gathers.

The Lodge is family-friendly, yet romantic for honeymooners and special occasions. We offer a wide range of activities for traditional safari goers as well as intrepid travellers. As we are small and exclusive you are encouraged to treat Borana as your home.

Borana Lodge comprises eight rooms, each unique in style and character. The combination of privacy, natural beauty and an abundance of wildlife creates a unique setting for a truly memorable safari experience.

Borana offers a wide range of activities, from walking with rhino at first light to traditional game drives and in-room massages. Borana Conservancy is home to the inspiration for Pride Rock from Disney’s original animated film The Lion King.

Pride Rock is reachable on foot from Borana Lodge as well as in a vehicle, on horse back or on a mountain bike. It is a wonderful location to watch the sunrise over a cup of coffee or enjoy a cold G&T at sunset.

Borana has in-house masseuse and beauty therapist who will work to help you relax and unwind after the day’s adventure. There are a variety of treatments designed specifically to soothe, refresh and revitalise you after a day in the bush. These use organic and natural products which are locally sourced and developed by Cinnebar Green.

Julie has meticulously crafted the retreat to take guests on a personal journey using yoga, yoga nidra, meditations, noble silence walks and the traditional elements of an African safari. Anyone who has tried yoga before would be comfortable on the retreat.

‘We had such an amazing experience here. The views from the room were breathtaking - you could see rhinos and elephants! The food for vegetarians was great. There was wood fired pizza also. Loved the community dinners! And last but not least, the game viewing, and staff were just superb!’

Divij

‘Pride Rock as seen on Lion King is so beautiful. Team Borana are dedicated to tuning their approach to each guest and we three had our delicious suppers in front of the fire in the mess just as if we were at home. The bedrooms had roaring fires at night and there is something special about listening to the crackle of the wood as one drifts off. One afternoon I saw (and heard) 31 elephants below my windows drinking from the watering hole and later a couple of white rhino. The game drives were exciting and different every day but the mid morning picnic breakfasts in quiet spots were scrummy and much needed.’

Mara

‘A nurturing retreat in a gloriously privileged setting, a magical experience for body and soul!’

Renee

‘I had the best weekend and experience at the Mapperton retreat. Plus Julie is the most inspirational human!’
